There are three different things people mean when they say "Zillow photographer," they pay completely differently, and the search results almost never separate them. One is a free badge you earn by publishing five 3D Home tours. One is a W2 hourly job with Zillow. One is a listing where an agent hires you directly at your own rate and Zillow never touches the relationship. That third one is the best deal for most working photographers, and it is the one nobody writes about.

‍

The three Zillow photographer paths, straight

Search "Zillow Showcase photographer" and you get a Reddit thread, two lead-gen pages from photography studios, and a step guide that is actually about something else. The confusion is understandable because Zillow uses similar names for three unrelated programs. If you are newer to the field, our real estate photography guide covers what the work pays overall and what AI changed.

Zillow Certified Photographer is a free marketing badge. You apply, watch a short training module, capture and publish five Zillow 3D Home tours, and Zillow emails you a badge for your website and email signature. It costs nothing and it guarantees nothing. No leads are attached to it.

Zillow Media Experts is Zillow's own photography service, built out after Zillow acquired VRX Media. Photographers in this program are hired by Zillow as hourly staff, not contractors setting their own rates. Agents book through Zillow, Zillow owns the client, and you get paid by the hour.

Showcase media provider is the one most photographers actually want. A Showcase listing needs a specific media package, and the agent paying for Showcase has to source that media from somewhere. If the agent already works with you, they can invite you to deliver it at your normal rate.

‍

What Zillow Showcase media actually includes

Showcase is Zillow's paid premium listing format. The listing gets a different layout, extra placement in search, and an interactive floor plan where a buyer clicks a room and sees the photos of that room. To qualify, the listing needs three pieces of media delivered together.

The first is high-resolution still photography of the whole home, shot to Zillow's quality standard. The second is a Zillow 3D Home tour, the interactive walkthrough captured in the Zillow app with a phone or a 360 camera. The third is an interactive floor plan with the photos tagged to specific rooms, which is what makes the click-a-room feature work.

Video is the fourth slot, and it is optional. Zillow now lets a Showcase listing carry one video of up to 120 seconds. It sits second in the media carousel and autoplays on mute. Zillow's Showcase guide sets three rules for it: the video must be created by the same photographer who provided all the other media for the listing, it goes up through Aryeo like everything else, and it cannot carry persistent agent or brokerage logos, watermarks or advertising. The agent pays nothing extra for the slot. If nobody fills it, it stays empty, and that gap matters for you. We come back to it below.

Every piece of Showcase media has to be uploaded through Aryeo, the media delivery platform Zillow owns. Zillow requires the upload to come from whoever actually captured the media, so the agent cannot download your files and push them up themselves. A free Aryeo Lite account is enough to deliver. Aryeo Pro, the paid tier, is only required if you want to be listed in the Showcase Select marketplace.

Path 1: Get the Zillow Certified Photographer badge

This is the free one, and it takes an afternoon of work spread over a few days. The process runs like this.

  1. Fill out the photographer application form on Zillow's site with your contact and business details.
  2. Wait for the follow-up email from a Zillow account representative, which contains your training links.
  3. Complete the short training module. It covers how capture works, the difference between shooting with a phone and shooting with a 360 camera, and how to use the app.
  4. Download the Zillow 3D Home app on iOS or Android. This is where you capture, manage, and publish tours.
  5. Capture and publish five Zillow 3D Home tours. They do not have to be active listings. Past listings, off-market homes, a rental you own, or your own house all count, which removes the main scheduling obstacle.
  6. Email your Zillow rep to confirm the five tours are published.
  7. Receive the badge once they verify your work.

Be clear-eyed about what the badge is. It is a trust signal you put on your website and in your pitch to agents. It is not a lead source and Zillow does not route work to you because you have it. Photographers who expect the phone to ring after certification are consistently disappointed. Photographers who treat it as one more credibility line next to their portfolio get value out of it, mostly because agents recognize the Zillow name.

‍

Path 2: Showcase Select through Aryeo Pro

Showcase Select is the discovery marketplace. Agents who need Showcase media but have no photographer browse it and book. Getting listed requires an Aryeo Pro account, which is the paid tier.

Once you have Pro, Aryeo lists four steps to get onto Showcase Select: capture Showcase-ready media (stills, Zillow 3D Home tours and interactive floor plans, to the standards in Zillow's Showcase Photographer Resource Center), designate the media products that meet Showcase requirements, assign at least one order form to Showcase Select, and fill out your company profile well enough for agents to find you. Expect to accept Zillow's media license terms along the way.

The tradeoff is the one every marketplace presents. You set your own prices and keep your client relationships, but you are paying a monthly software fee to be discoverable, and you are competing on a list where agents compare you against every other Showcase-enabled studio in your metro. It works well if you are already running your business on Aryeo. It is an expensive way to buy leads if you are not.

‍

Path 3: The agent invites you directly

This is the path with the best economics and the least coverage online. When an agent starts a Showcase listing, the listing's Overview page has a "Get started" button under the Showcase section. From there the agent clicks "Invite photographer", adds your details, and either books you from the directory or sends you a media request. Zillow's help article for this step is titled, fittingly, "Invite a photographer you know."

The request tells you what to capture (stills, the 3D tour, the interactive floor plan) and where to upload it. You deliver through a free Aryeo Lite account, which Aryeo launched specifically so photographers can deliver media and upload Showcase media at no cost. You charge the agent your normal rate. Zillow takes no cut, sets no price, and never becomes the client of record.

If you already shoot for a handful of agents, this is worth an email this week. Tell your regulars that you can deliver Showcase media and that they should use "Invite photographer" with your details rather than booking a stranger through Zillow. Agents mostly do not know the option exists, and the ones paying for Showcase already have a media budget open.

What each path actually pays

This is the question the People Also Ask box keeps surfacing and the ranking pages keep dodging. Here is what is documented.

Zillow's own job postings for the Media Experts photographer role put the hourly range at $24.10 to $38.50 in California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state and Washington DC, and $22.90 to $36.50 in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia (postings from August 2026). The role is part-time, described as 10 to 20 hours a week. That is the honest answer to "how much does Zillow pay photographers," and it is worth comparing against what you already charge per shoot. If you shoot a home in two hours and bill $250, the hourly job is a pay cut. If you are new, have no client list, and want guaranteed volume while you build one, it is a reasonable on-ramp.

The agent side sets the ceiling. Showcase is an agent subscription product, priced by market and listing volume, generally landing in the hundreds of dollars per listing. Our breakdown of what Zillow Showcase costs and when it pencils out goes through the current pricing models. The relevant point for you is that an agent buying Showcase has already decided this listing gets a real media budget. Price accordingly. If you are unsure where your numbers should sit, our real estate photography pricing guide has current market rates, and the three routes into real estate photography work covers how staff roles, contract work, and running your own studio compare over a full year.

‍

The upsell hiding inside every Showcase shoot

Go back to the Showcase media list. Stills, 3D tour, interactive floor plan, and one optional video slot that only the Showcase photographer is allowed to fill.

Read that rule again from the agent's side. If you shot the listing, the agent cannot bring in a videographer or upload a video they made themselves. The video slot is yours or it stays empty. And the agent still needs something to post on Instagram, send to their database and run as a Facebook ad, which the Showcase page does nothing for. They usually realize it a few days after the listing goes live.

You already have the raw material. You shot the whole home in high resolution for the Showcase package. Turning those same frames into a listing video costs you no extra time on site and no extra shoot. Deliver two cuts: a clean horizontal video under 120 seconds with no agent or brokerage logos for the Showcase carousel, and a branded vertical cut the agent can post on social.

This is where Amplifiles fits into a photographer's workflow. Amplifiles turns listing photos into a 1080p marketing video in about five minutes, with voice-over and captions, and your client's branding on the social cut only, at $1.50 per image (one dollar and fifty cents). A twelve-image video costs $18 in credits. If you charge the agent $150 for it as a Showcase add-on, the margin speaks for itself. Agents who also post the video on the regular listing can follow our guide to adding video to a Zillow listing.

Compare that to the alternatives photographers usually reach for. Aryeo is where you deliver and host the files. Canva can assemble a slideshow if you build the template and place every photo yourself. Amplifiles is purpose-built for the one job of turning a set of listing photos into a finished listing video without filming or editing, and it exports watermark-free in horizontal, vertical and square, so the clean Zillow cut and the social cut come from the same project. New accounts get 1,200 free credits, roughly eight processed images, so you can produce a sample from an old shoot before you offer it to a client.

If you would rather not run the tool yourself during a busy week, our Done-For-You video service for photographers has our human editors turn the photos you already shot into finished videos within 24 hours, from $39 per listing, which you resell at your own price. Every package comes back as separate horizontal, vertical and square videos, so the Showcase cut and the social cut arrive together.

‍

Who should do this, and who should skip it

Do it if you already shoot for agents in a market where Showcase is being sold. The direct invite path costs you nothing, adds a floor plan and 3D tour to your deliverables, and gives you a reason to raise your package price.

Do it if you want the certified badge purely as a credibility line. It is free and it takes an afternoon.

Think harder before joining Zillow Media Experts if you have an established client list. You would be trading your own rate and your own clients for an hourly wage and someone else's schedule. That trade makes sense when you are starting out and it stops making sense fast.

Skip Aryeo Pro if you are not already using Aryeo to run your business. Paying a monthly subscription to appear on a marketplace list, in a metro where Showcase volume may be thin, is a slow way to lose money. Get the direct invites working first and only pay for discovery once you have proven the demand exists in your area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I be a Zillow Showcase photographer without Aryeo Pro?

Yes. Delivering Showcase media only requires an Aryeo account, and the free Aryeo Lite tier is enough. Aryeo Pro is needed only to appear in the Showcase Select marketplace where agents browse and book photographers. If your work comes from agents who already know you, Lite covers it.

How much does Zillow pay photographers?

Zillow Media Experts photographers are paid hourly as part-time Zillow staff, with posted ranges of $24.10 to $38.50 per hour in higher-cost states and $22.90 to $36.50 in others, typically for 10 to 20 hours a week. That is a different arrangement from delivering Showcase media as an independent photographer, where the agent pays you your own rate and Zillow takes no cut.

Is Zillow Showcase photography worth it for an established photographer?

Usually yes, through the direct invite path. You keep your rate and your client, you add a floor plan and 3D tour to your package, and the agent already has a media budget approved for that listing. The path that rarely works out for an established photographer is the hourly Zillow Media Experts role, which trades your own pricing for a wage.

Can a Zillow Showcase listing include a video?

Not by default, but it can. Zillow now allows one optional video of up to 120 seconds in a Showcase listing's media carousel, and it must be made by the same photographer who supplied the rest of the listing media, uploaded through Aryeo, with no persistent agent or brokerage logos. Photographers commonly fill that slot with a tool like Amplifiles, which produces a 1080p listing video from the photos already shot in about five minutes at $1.50 per image.

How long does Zillow photographer certification take?

The certified photographer process is usually a few days of elapsed time and a few hours of actual work. The training module is short, and the main task is capturing and publishing five Zillow 3D Home tours. Those tours can be of past listings, off-market homes, or your own property, so you do not have to wait for new listings to come in.

What equipment do I need for Zillow Showcase media?

You need a camera that produces high-resolution interior stills to Zillow's quality standard, plus either a phone or a 360 camera for the 3D Home tour capture. The Zillow 3D Home app supports both. Most photographers who already shoot listings professionally have everything they need except possibly a 360 camera, which speeds up tour capture considerably on larger homes.

Final Thoughts

Becoming a Zillow Showcase photographer is less a certification than a decision about who owns your client. The badge is free and mildly useful. The hourly job is real work at a real wage and a bad trade if you already have a book of business. The direct invite is the one that adds revenue without giving anything up, and it is available to you today if you send one email to the agents you already shoot for.

We built Amplifiles because the media a listing needs kept outgrowing what a single shoot produces. Our platform turns listing photos into professional 1080p marketing videos in about 5 minutes, with voice-overs, captions, and branding. No filming or editing required.
